Club Challenge

KNL introduces a new challenge for interested club paddlers. Our objective is to paddle the entire shoreline of the Avalon peninsula, through the combined efforts of any member who wants to participate. Paddlers will submit details on the Avalon shoreline they paddle on their day and overnight trips. The club will accumulate and map these trip reports, and provide updates on the KNL website. Over time, we'll work to paddle the whole coastline of the Avalon.

Safety is a primary concern for this challenge. The Avalon coast includes many sheltered bays (Avondale, Cape Broyle, Aquaforte, etc.) that offer Level 1 paddling in ideal wind and sea conditions. However, many of the exposed capes and headlands (Cape St. Francis, Cape Race, Cape St. Mary's, etc.) are Level 4 paddles. There are dozens of paddles that are Level 2 or 3. It is crucial that you choose trips that are appropriate for your level of paddling skill and experience. Do not paddle areas that are beyond your abilities! If in doubt, talk to more experienced paddlers.
