This editorial policy has been approved by KNL's executive. It provides the framework for the production of the club's
magazine, Ebb & Flow, in particular, choices concerning its content.

The cover photo of the
magazine will alternate between whitewater and sea kayakers. It will also alternate between male and female paddlers to the greatest extent possible. Photos of a range of paddlers of any age, no matter what their skill level will be used.

The content of Ebb & Flow will focus almost exclusively on paddlers from Newfoundland and Labrador, and paddling locations in this province.

The magazine will be free of sexist, racist and homophobic content. Content must be respectful towards other paddlers, although the
magazine will not avoid controversy.

The content will seek a balance between whitewater and sea kayaking content to the greatest extent possible.

Submissions from KNL members and other kayakers in the province will be strongly encouraged, no matter what the writing ability of the author.

In recognizing the importance of gender parity in all KNL matters, submissions from female paddlers will be strongly encouraged.

Photographs from KNL members and other kayakers in the province will be strongly encouraged.

Advertising will be placed within the covers of the
magazine. The ratio of articles/news to advertisements will always be weighted in favour of the former.
“Excess" advertising will be included as inserts.

The names of the current KNL executive and a message from the president shall always be included on the inside cover page (i.e. page 2) of the
magazine.

Letters to the editor will be included and encouraged from the members.

All submissions
to the magazine in the way of articles, letters to the editor, and photographs may be edited for length, content, etc., according to the whim of the editor, and the editor will not seek approval for any edits from the authors. Authors submit to the
magazine knowing that their contributions are subject to edit.

Canadian spellings (not U.S.) are the norm.

The unit of measure will be metric to the greatest extent possible.

By-lines for articles and photographs will be included to the greatest extent possible. Editorial content may not always be signed.

The content of the
magazine will always be vetted by another KNL board member prior to publication.
Miscellaneous considerations

The magazine will be published a minimum of two times per year.

Two copies of the
magazine will be placed on the public record at the Centre for Newfoundland Studies at Memorial University and two at the Newfoundland and Labrador Public Library at the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John's.

The magazine it distributed free of charge to members (first priority) and the public at large.

Back-issues of
the magazine will be placed on the KNL web site in pdf format. However, a recent issue will not be placed on the site until the next issue has been published (or almost published).
