March 6, 2010: KNL Workshop – In Search of Efficiency
8:45 – 10:15 pm
Aquarena
The forward stroke is both the most utilized stroke in sea
kayaking and the most difficult to master. This clinic will take a look at
the fundamentals of the forward stroke and help participants apply greater
power and efficiency to their forward paddling. If time allows, the clinic
will also explore those same principles to pivoting the kayak. Contact
Richard Alexander at
info@nfkayak.com

March 17, 2010: Rolling – Mental Preparation, and Physical Preparation
7:30
PM
Guv’nor Pub on Elizabeth Ave
A key component to successful rolling is
mental skills preparation. This session will no doubt inspire considerable
discussion between advanced paddlers and novices alike. This is a skill that
is essentially counterintuitive and at odds with the nervous systems drive to
survive. So – how do we mentally prepare? Mike will share some mental skills
training principles from the coaching perspective. If there is time the
session will consider the value of attempting to train the respiratory system
and select muscle groups. For information contact Mike Kay at:
mike.kay@easternhealth.ca
March 27, 2010: KNL Workshop – “Roll” your own
8:45 -10:15 PM Aquarena
The roll is one of the trickiest kayak maneuvers to master. Bob Gagnon will lead this pool session with a number of rolling expert resource people in the pool for rolling feedback. This will be a clinic type session – one group will focus on directing on a basic sweep roll, helping you advance your kayaking skills while taking control of your boat. A second group will focus on a more advanced combat roll. This clinic will be held at the Aquarena and space is limited, therefore pre-registration is required. Bring your own kayak and gear. To register, please contact Michael Kay at 754 5188 or mak57_@hotmail.com

April 28, 2010: South Coast Trip Hermitage to Burgeo
7:30 PM
Guv’nor Pub on Elizabeth Ave
In the summer of 2009, Johnny Walsh, Ian Fong, Craig Burden and
Richard Alexander paddled the exposed coastline of Newfoundland’s south coast
from Hermitage to Burgeo. The four were struck by the beauty of the mountains
and fjords, the history of the resettled communities and the rapid pace of
change in the communities that still exist along that coast. Join Johnny for
a few slides and stories about this trip. For
